Farmers Markets who are members of the Farm Retail Association are taking part in the World Farmers Market Coalition’s Farmers Market Count!Emma

FMCOUNT! Is an important initiative to count biodiversity at local markets. Biodiverse food is often overlooked, but farmers markets can help preserve and promote it. The count takes into consideration the diversity of domesticated crops, livestock and farmed fish and aquatic invertebrates, forest trees and wild-harvested aquatic species.

Emma Mosey, Chair of the FRA comments, “This is an important initiative for our Farmers Market members. By taking part in this count, we can recognise the contribution that our Farmers Markets make towards the preservation and growth of biodiversity and making a biodiverse diet more accessible to customers in our local communities.”

The count will take place on 22 May, the International Day for Biological Diversity and the results of the count will be announced at the end of June as part of the WorldFMC Report.
