50 YEARS of Soft Play – let’s celebrate!

2022 is the 50th Anniversary of Rupert Oliver’s invention of Soft Play – yes, we said 50 years!  Rupert and his inventions appeared in three episodes of the BBC TV programme “Tomorrows World” in 1971 with the first ever springy rocker, and in 1972 with two episodes on Soft Play.

BBC’s ”Blue Peter” demonstrated his Leaf Chair (www.leafchair.com) in one of their early episodes, some clips being shown again in 2020 “The Repair Shop – Fixing Britain” 20th Century Furniture Classics, when one of the original Leaf Chairs was featured.

Rupert Oliver, celebrating 50 years of soft playAnd we are still here, despite the best endeavours of Covid-19, coming up with new ideas and new collaborations all the time.  Variety is our specialism.  Most of our work currently features interactive play, with standalone musical instruments and games, and complete sensory areas.  Role Play areas are still developing, indoors and outdoors, and we very recently installed a new small soft-play room in a specialist school for autistic children.  We design and supply big indoor play areas too.

To add to the variety we also have a new range of furniture with rechargeable LED lighting inside.

We are distributors of beautifully formed musical instruments, such as in these pictures
